1 Brainy Thing To Make You A Better Dancer!

Dancing is frequently a mental battle with yourself. Here is 1 tip that will help you understand yourself and focus on the right things. This is post is for dancers from all styles.

Many of us are very serious about dancing and it means everything to us, regardless whether you're a beginner dancer or a pro.

For a very long time I struggled to understand why some people may feel different about dancing and have a different approach than myself. I must admit, some of my dance partnerships ended because I wanted a dance partner who would think about dancing the same way as I did. Does it sound familiar?

One day I was asked to take a Myers-Briggs personality type test. And I am telling you that it really changed my life! This online test is not a horoscope or some other form of witchcraft. It's a psychology tool that is used all around the world by athletes and corporations to identify characteristics of individuals. Sounds fancy, but it takes only a few minutes to complete. At the end of the test, you get a very accurate description of your personality: your strengths, weaknesses.

I was simply reading mine with an open mouth because it was a perfect match.

Finally it felt great to be understood. You will be amazed by the results too. When you continue to study it, you will realize what you're good at. This way you will be able to focus your energy better on something that is a part of you. In fact, it gave me a peace of mind too.

That's not all. After taking the test I thought how it can further improve my dancing. Well, I asked my dance partner to take the test too. You should do the same and then compare results with him/her. You will be able to read about your dance partner's personality trait and very often you will realize why they are the way they are. Whether in stressful situations, when handling conflict, how they prepare for practice and rehearsals or manage competitions and shows etc.

Investing time in yourself and your partnership is very important. It's not just about practicing steps but learning about each other to bring out the best in one another. Like I said at the beginning, as dancers and artists we fight a mental battle everyday with ourselves and the critics inside our heads.

By realizing what you're great at you will most importantly grow mentally stronger as a dancer by accepting what you are like! You will also be able to contribute to your partnership very differently.

Every dancer should take this test at least for self-awareness. Here is the link. It helped me and I am sure it will help you too.

Once you have taken the test, share this post on Facebook so your other dancing friends can learn more about themselves too. Have fun with it.
